Since its founding in 1893, Bryn Mawr Hospital has been sustained by the generosity of the community it serves. The hospital relies on the philanthropic partnership of its patients, family members and friends to fund programs and services that patient revenue alone cannot support. Below are available gift opportunities that will enhance the hospital's clinical capabilities, patient experience initiatives, research efforts and educational programs. Multi-year commitments of $25,000 or more may be fulfilled over a period of up to five years.

Top Fundraising Priorities for FY25

Radiology Master Facility Plan/Imaging Campaign

$2,000,000+ one-time need

Bryn Mawr Hospital is embarking on a multi-phase radiology master facility plan to include the development and redesign of the imaging services. The project will include a relocation and upgrade of imaging services (MRI, CT, X-Ray) as well as future plans to include endoscopy, interventional radiology and ultrasound. The new equipment/relocation will equip Bryn Mawr Hospital with the latest technology, provide more accurate images for diagnoses, drastically decrease scan times, facilitate improved patient flow for the diagnosis and treatment of patients, offer a more efficient, quieter and more comfortable experience for patients, discontinue the transport of inpatients through the Emergency Department waiting room and allow BMH (Bryn Mawr Hospital) to serve a growing outpatient population.

Strategic Initiatives Fund

$1,000,000+ annual need

Unrestricted gifts to Bryn Mawr Hospital are crucial because they offer the flexibility to address immediate and evolving needs. Unlike designated funds, which are tied to specific projects or programs, unrestricted donations can be allocated wherever they are most needed, whether it's upgrading essential equipment, expanding facilities, enhancing patient care services, launching innovative health initiatives, supporting clinical research or investing in staff development. Ultimately, unrestricted contributions ensure that Bryn Mawr Hospital has the financial agility to maintain high standards of care and to continuously improve the services provided to the community.


Oncology Nurse Navigators

$300,000+ annual need

All Bryn Mawr Hospital patients are assigned a nurse navigator at no cost to our patients and families. Nurse navigators guide patients and families through the cancer continuum acting as liaison, educator and patient advocate, making the cancer care experience easier and less overwhelming. Navigators help coordinate appointments, tests, and procedures, and facilitate ongoing support for patients, whether newly diagnosed, in active treatment or receiving follow-up care. Some of the services that nurse navigators provide are non-billable meaning that the hospital does not receive any reimbursement for this essential layer of support.


Technology and Equipment

$250,000+ annual need

Bryn Mawr Hospital is a hub for superior patient care and surgical excellence rivaling academic medical centers, strengthened by continued investment in technology and equipment. Advancements in treatment modalities, rapid growth in our patient volumes and expansion of our teaching programs all contribute in one way or another to the demand for new and additional technology. This past year especially, philanthropy has had a transformative effect on Bryn Mawr Hospital's ability to purchase equipment that may have otherwise been deferred or denied due to a shortage of operational dollars. Purchases made possible entirely through charitable giving include a robotic surgical console for our urology and surgery residents to use, new high-tech 3D specimen breast imaging equipment, Labor and Delivery stretchers, NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) and pediatric beds, milk warmers and resuscitation devices in the NICU, pediatric EEG equipment for neurological assessments and more.


Human Milk-Based Fortifier

$200,000+ annual need

Premature infants and those with medical complications often require specialized nutritional support to thrive. One crucial aspect of this support is the use of milk fortifiers, which are designed to increase the caloric and nutritional content of breast milk to better meet the needs of these infants. With the combination of breast milk and milk fortifiers, infants in the BMH NICU can receive the nutrients they need to grow stronger and healthier. Each year, Bryn Mawr Hospital purchases more than $100,000 of human milk-based fortifier.


Obstetric Hospitalists

$150,000+ annual need

The term "hospitalist" refers to physicians whose primary professional focus is the general medical care of hospitalized patients. The primary role of an obstetric (OB) hospitalist is to help manage obstetric emergencies that occur in the hospital. With growing obstetric volumes, Bryn Mawr Hospital is recruiting five OB hospitalists to ensure a physician is on the unit 24/7 to help with deliveries. This model has shown reduced length of stay and C-Section rates, more closely managed antepartum care and other safety and quality improvements.


Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Recruitment

$125,000+ annual need

The main types of Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) include physician assistants, certified nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, certified nurse midwives and certified registered nurse anesthetists. There are many benefits of integrating APPs into hospital settings including enhanced patient satisfaction, more efficient healthcare delivery, less physician burnout and cost savings. APPs often spend more time with patients, which can improve patient education, adherence to treatment plans and overall satisfaction. Additionally, APPs can handle routine and follow-up visits, manage chronic conditions and provide preventive care, allowing physicians to focus on more complex cases and procedures. By sharing the workload with APPs, physicians can experience reduced burnout and job stress, leading to better job satisfaction and retention rates.


Patient Transport Monitors

$100,000+ one-time need

Cardiac monitors are crucial for monitoring and managing patients' heart health, especially during transport between departments. These monitors allow the team to transport patients and maintain the same level of monitoring as one would receive when they are in the units. Currently, Bryn Mawr Hospital utilizes large monitors that are heavy during transport. Bryn Mawr Hospital is looking to obtain between six and twelve transport monitors to support our patients; $100,000 would cover the cost of six monitors but our ideal state includes the purchase of twelve monitors for $200,000.


Clinical Research and Trials Coordination

$100,000+ annual need

Many of today's medical advances are the direct result of clinical studies and because of the diligent work of researchers. Clinical researchers and coordinators enroll BMH patients in clinical research trials, managing patients for the duration of their trial, ensuring adherence to protocols, following up with patients' post-trial and performing data analysis. At any given time, we have about 100+ patients enrolled in cardiology and oncology clinical trials at BMH.


Pain Management Table

$100,000+ one-time need

Pain management can help people with pain from various causes, such as surgery, injury, illness or chronic conditions. A pain management table is a specialized medical table designed to provide targeted treatment to specific areas of the body that are experiencing chronic or acute pain. This piece of equipment is crucial for providing effective and comfortable pain management treatments, which are vital for improving the quality of life for our patients.


Vascular Access Ultrasounds

$90,000+ one time need

Ultrasound machines play a critical role in guiding healthcare providers during procedures such as central venous catheter insertions, peripheral intravenous access, lab specimen collection and other interventions that require placement of needles or catheters. Ultrasounds are increasingly used to visualize blood vessels in real-time allowing for better targeting of the needle and reducing complications. Ultrasounds help to identify location, size and depth of the veins and are an essential addition to modern medical practice, emphasizing patient safety and procedural success.


NICU Beds and Bedside Equipment

$75,000+ annual need

Infants receiving care in our Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit require specific beds depending on their age, size, acuity and developmental progress. With increasing patient volumes and our new partnership with CHOP (Children's Hospital of Philadelphia), BMH has the need to purchase a variety of replacement and additional beds for varied acuities of care, from the most complex "Giraffe" bed controlling every aspect of the baby's environment and costing approx. $90,000, to a simple bassinet costing approx. $5,000.


Breast Magnetic Localizer

$70,000+ one-time need

A breast magnetic localizer is a critical tool that will significantly enhance Bryn Mawr Hospital's capabilities in breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. At Bryn Mawr Hospital, we are committed to providing the highest standard of care for our patients and having access to advanced technology is essential. A breast magnetic localizer will greatly improve the precision of breast cancer surgeries, facilitating more accurate localization of tumors, which is crucial for successful outcomes and reduced patient recovery times.


Graduate Medical Education Programs

$50,000+ annual need

BMH proudly participates in educating the next generation of physicians through its own residency and fellowship programs as well as hosting residents and fellows from other organizations who rotate through BMH as part of their training experience. Receiving care at a teaching institution benefits patients by way of access to physicians who are at the top of their field, more innovative treatments and additional oversight and rounding during care experiences. Graduates have frequently established their practices and built careers at BMH after their training. These programs, spanning family medicine, urology, cardiology, surgery, breast cancer and more come at a cost of hundreds of thousands to BMH annually. Gifts support graduate medical education at BMH and give the programs flexibility in their recruitment endeavors and operating budgets.


Patient Financial Assistance

$50,000+ annual need

Assistance funds are used to support uninsured and underinsured patients access care, including screening and diagnostic imaging, anesthesia and other procedural services, prescription costs and transportation. Our care coordination teams work closely to identify inpatients whose socio-economic factors may prevent a safe and timely discharge and transition to outpatient care. Assistance funds have supported a myriad of patients from all walks of life including Ukrainian refugees, domestic violence victims, patients with no local support systems and the homeless.


Patient Experience Initiatives

$35,000+ annual need

Bryn Mawr Hospital believes in addressing the whole patient in an environment that patients and families find compassionate, supportive and comfortable. Many initiatives that have the biggest impact on patient experience are non-billable and BMH has been funding them through the operating budget in keeping with the Hospital's commitment to create superior patient experiences and outcomes. Charitable contributions will allow for the sustained provision of these initiatives and the establishment of new programs.


Mother/Baby Small Capital Items

$25,000+ annual need

Bryn Mawr Hospital continues to experience record setting birth rates with the recent closures of maternity units in our region and a new OB practice joining our medical staff. Projections show volumes increasing further in the year ahead. With this continued growth in delivery rates, BMH is seeking to purchase additional equipment for our Labor & Delivery and Maternity units - from bilimeters and baby scales to instruments and monitors - to relieve some of the burden of shared resources in short supply.


Named Endowment to Support Approved Area of Your Choosing

$25,000 (minimum)+

Endowments supply funding in perpetuity to support programs and services that the Hospital will always need to provide. Subject to a conservative, Board-approved spending rule applied on the fund, endowments of $25,000 - $50,000 typically generate from $750 to $1,500 in annual support.


Bridge Milk Program for Well Babies

$20,000+ annual need

Expanding on the success of our Human Milk Program in the NICU, BMH has recently rolled out a Bridge Milk Program for well-babies on the maternity unit. This new initiative offers families seeking to exclusively breastfeed access to supplementary donor milk in circumstances where babies may not be receiving adequate supply from their mother due to issues with latching and feeding, the mother's condition or the baby's condition. Funds will offset the expenses for Bryn Mawr to purchase human donor breast milk and offer it to patients free-of-charge during their brief stay on the maternity unit.


Music Therapy

$15,000+ annual need

A certified music therapist plays the violin and guitar in hospital areas including surgical recovery, intensive care, patient rooms, family lounges and other public spaces. This complimentary service has been shown to reduce stress and enhance recovery.


Healing Touch Program

$15,000+ annual need

Therapeutic massages are provided at no cost to patients undergoing cancer treatment as part of the Hospital's commitment to a holistic and integrative approach to care and a superior patient experience.


Pastoral Care Program Support

$10,000+ one-time need

Bryn Mawr Hospital is committed to meeting the spiritual and faith-based needs of our diverse patient population. Our pastoral care team relies on generous donations from community organizations for supplies of prayer books, shawls, mats, rosaries and more, but rarely do those donations meet the need. We are seeking to establish a new Pastoral Care Fund with a minimum of $10,000 which our team can rely upon, as needed, to enhance and purchase supplies for our Quiet Rooms but also to give these resources free-of-charge to our inpatient population.


Cardiac Rehabilitation Program

$10,000+ one-time need

Cardiac rehabilitation is a structured program designed to help patients recover from cardiovascular events such as heart attacks, coronary artery bypass surgery or angioplasty. It involves a multidisciplinary approach that includes supervised exercise, education and counseling to improve cardiovascular health and reduce the risk of future heart problems. Exercise training equipment plays a pivotal role in the recovery and long-term management of patients recovering from cardiovascular events. BMH is seeking to purchase a bicycle trainer and other items to accelerate recovery for this patient population.
