Meniscectomy

What is a meniscectomy?

The goal of this surgery for a torn meniscus is to remove part or the entire damaged meniscus. The type of procedure is determined by the pattern, location and size of the tear and your health status. If the tear can be treated with minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery, the orthopaedic surgeon will insert the tin tube containing the camera through one small incision and the surgical instruments through another small incision.

A partial meniscectomy removes as little of the meniscus as possible, while a total meniscectomy removes it in entirety. Partial meniscectomy is often done as an outpatient surgical procedure.
