Diversity, Respect, Equity and Inclusion
About DREI
Since 2013, our Diversity, Respect, Equity and Inclusion initiative has created a foundation for fostering a culture of respect where every patient, employee and visitor at Main Line Health feels valued. This initiative celebrates our differences and our similarities.
Main Line Health is committed to advancing the health and wellbeing of the communities we serve. We do this by building trust and identifying and eliminating disparities in care with the understanding that structural racism has affected confidence in the health care system. With this in mind, our work focuses on:
- Creating an environment of inclusion for all
- Advancing health equity
- Eliminating disparities in care
- Impacting Social Drivers of Health
We work hard every day to be the best place to give and receive care, while serving our community through our mission, vision and values. Some of our most important values and core work that drive us every day include:
- Safety
- Quality
- Diversity
- Respect
- Health equity
The Power of Collaboration
Creating a culture of respect requires mutual participation from every one of us, every day. Through collaborative work, partnerships and interprofessional teams, Main Line Health positively impacts our community.
The following programs demonstrate that through interprofessional collaboration and partnership, small groups can have an immediate and sustainable impact on their communities:
- The American Hospital Association's #123 for Equity Pledge
- System-wide diversity education
- Pursuing Equity Initiative of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI)
- Annual Healthcare Disparities Colloquium
- Patient-centered Medical Student Advocate (MSA) program
- Youth-centered Health Career Collaborative (HCC)
- Center for Population Health Research
- Deaver Wellness Farm
LGBTQ inclusive care and health equity
As just one part of our LGBTQ+ inclusive care and health equity work, we've adopted a new policy for gender-neutral bathrooms throughout our facilities. Every detail matters to us as we embrace everyone's unique identity.
Health equity and operations
Learn about Main Line Health's clinical environment workgroups (CEWs), which are determined by clinical program focus (such as medicine, surgery, OB/GYN or emergency medicine/ICU). These allow our employees to drive improvements in health outcomes.
Diversity councils
Ranging from education to community outreach, these workgroups focus on refining strategies, adopting best practices and tackling pertinent issues. Among them, the Education Workgroup with a challenging but crucial task of educating 11,000 employees about the importance of DREI.
Faculty and staff recognition
Meet Lankenau Medical Center’s former president, the late Phillip D. Robinson, whose outstanding commitment and innovative insights pioneered health equity here. His creation of Delema G. Deaver farm has left an inspirational legacy at Main Line Health.
