From the Program Director
Dear prospective applicant,
Thank you for expressing your interest in our residency program! At Lankenau Medical Center, we pride ourselves on being an academic medical center that offers incredible pathology, patient diversity, and faculty expertise. What truly sets our program apart is the nurturing and personalized environment in which you will learn and grow.
Our program exhibits exceptional surgical, subspecialty, and critical care services, making us a referral center for many hospitals in the local area. Rarely do our cases require transfers to other facilities, as we are equipped to handle complex and interesting medical cases right here.
Situated at the crossroads of three counties in Pennsylvania, our location exposes residents to a diverse patient population, ranging from West Philadelphia to the surrounding suburbs as well as from around the world. Just over half our inpatients at any time come from the West Philadelphia area. This diversity ensures a rich learning experience, allowing residents to navigate the health care system across various socioeconomic backgrounds. Diversity is a cornerstone of our residency program, reflecting the communities we serve. I encourage you to explore our Diversity, Respect, Equity, and Inclusion journey at Main Line Health, accessible via the link at the bottom of this page.
Our amazing academic faculty are passionate about patient care and dedicated to resident education. At Lankenau Medical Center, you will form incredibly close relationships with both core and subspecialty faculty, which is a key part of the personalized experience in our program. This close bond offers outstanding teaching, research opportunities, and career mentorship. Supported by exceptional ancillary services and nursing staff, our residents deliver outstanding patient care within state-of-the-art facilities, including our newly renovated Emergency Department and Heart Pavilion. The presence of the Lankenau Institute for Medical Research enriches the residency experience, providing opportunities for our trainees to engage in world-class clinical, bench, and public health research. Lankenau Medical Center is committed to expansion, with plans to develop new patient care areas at the St. Charles Borromeo Seminary property located across the street from the hospital.
Our program's strong emphasis on academics and clinical exposure is reflected in our exceptional ABIM board pass rate and fellowship match success. Recent graduates have secured fellowships at our institution as well as Cedars Sinai Medical Center, Brown University, the Hospital for Special Surgery, Baylor University, Thomas Jefferson University, the University of Maryland, George Washington University, and the University of Pennsylvania, to name a few.
Our X+Y scheduling model offers a balanced approach to ambulatory education, primary care, and exposure to outpatient subspecialties. Over the past four years, we have seen a surge in graduates pursuing careers in primary care. This trend speaks to the outstanding training experience our residents receive in our ambulatory practice. With a robust Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) curriculum, handheld Butterfly devices, a POCUS elective and new simulation equipment, residents are well-equipped for their future careers.
Lankenau Medical Center is such a special place to train. The best part about this program is the family environment and close-knit community. There is a wonderfully nurturing and supportive culture within our program leadership, program coordinators, faculty, and most importantly our residency program. We strive to support and care for you academically, emotionally, and spiritually. Graduates of our program, both preliminary and categorical, leave our program ready to provide safe, high quality, evidenced-based care to their patients.
We enthusiastically invite you to apply to our residency program and would be delighted to meet you!
Best regards,
Jonathan Doroshow, MD FACP
