How does this affect you? Beginning now through December 7, 2024, you have the opportunity to enroll with a new Medicare Advantage health plan for 2025. Aside from traditional Medicare, Main Line Health participates with many Medicare Advantage plans in the market. View a comprehensive list that details all of the many Medicare Advantage health plans with which Main Line Health facilities and our employed physicians are contracted. We encourage you to enroll with one of these plans by the December 7th deadline so that we can continue to deliver the quality healthcare services to which you’ve grown accustomed.

Switching plans is easy! Simply log into your Medicare account at www.mymedicare.gov, or call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227; TTY/TDD 1-800-325-0778) if you’d like to discuss your options with a Medicare representative.

Cigna Medicare patients who are undergoing an active course of treatment on December 31, 2024, may still be able to utilize Main Line Health facilities for 90 days post-termination, with authorization from Cigna Medicare. Additionally, patients who are pregnant may continue to receive care through the post -partum period. For all other patients, you may only continue to receive care at a Main Line Health System campus by switching your Medicare Advantage plan.

If you wish to continue your Cigna Medicare coverage with Main Line Health no longer a participating provider, Cigna Medicare may no longer cover care rendered by a Main Line Health physician or facility after December 31, 2024, or you may have a higher cost share for using an out-of-network provider. Cigna and your Main Line Health physician will assist you in transitioning your care to a new in-network provider. Please note that in no event would Main Line Health refuse to treat you in our emergency rooms, regardless of your insurance coverage.

Main Line Health values our relationship and wants to continue to be a trusted partner in your healthcare. We look forward to serving your future medical needs!

Frequently asked questions

Why did Main Line Health end its contract with Cigna Medicare?

The decision to terminate the agreement was a decision that we jointly made after months of unsuccessful negotiations, and this decision was not made lightly. We provide a variety of quality services to all of our patients, and it is essential that reimbursement cover the cost of the care we provide so that we may continue serving the patients in our community.

Is Main Line Health currently accepting patients who are covered by Cigna Medicare?

No. Because the contract will end on 12/31/24, Main Line Health ceased scheduling appointments for new Cigna Medicare patients for dates of service on 1/1/25 and beyond.

What does this mean for me? I have Cigna Medicare coverage.

This means that beginning January 1, 2025, Cigna Medicare may not authorize or cover care rendered at Main Line Health Systems hospitals or doctors’ offices unless you are undergoing an active course of treatment, except for emergency services.

Will Cigna Medicare subscribers still be able to get care at Main Line Health in 2025?

If you are an existing Main Line Health patient, you may be able to obtain an authorization to continue your care at Main Line Health for a 90-day period. However, as a Medicare Advantage subscriber you currently have right to switch your coverage until December 7, 2024. Choosing a participating health plan will ensure that you continue to have access to Main Line Health’s hospitals and doctors. Switching plans is easy! Simply log into your Medicare account at www.mymedicare.gov, or call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227; TTY/TDD 1-800-325-0778) if you’d like to discuss your options with a Medicare representative. If you are covered under a group retiree policy, please reach out to your company’s human resources department to understand your options.

I have Cigna Commercial coverage. Does this termination impact me?

No, not at this time. We are separately contracted for the Cigna Commercial products, but note that we are in active negotiations with them at this time.

After December 31, 2024, if I keep my Cigna Medicare coverage, will I have to pay out pocket costs or be charged more if I receive services at Main Line Health System?

If you are in an active course of treatment, Cigna will authorize and continue to cover your care for a period of 90 days with no change to your cost share. Without an out-of-network authorization, your care may not be authorized by Cigna Medicare, and you may have a higher cost share. Check with your Cigna Medicare Members Services number on the back of your ID card to understand what your cost share may be. Main Line Health is committed to your care and will work diligently to obtain approval for any services you require during the 90-day continuity of care period.

I am currently a Main Line Health patient and have services scheduled in December. Can I keep my appointments? Will these services be covered?

Yes, please do keep all scheduled appointments you have in December 2024. Main Line Health and Cigna Medicare remain contracted until December 31, 2024.

I am currently a Main Line Health patient and have services scheduled in 2025. Can I keep my appointments? Will these services be covered?

Unless you are in an active course of treatment, Cigna Medicare may not authorize services at a Main Line Health facility or with a Main Line Health Physician with a 2025 date of service. We will work with Cigna Medicare to obtain an out of network authorization, but note that the request may be denied.

I am currently a Main Line Health patient receiving ongoing care for a chronic condition or disease. Will I be able to continue to receive care at Main Line Health after December 31st if I still have Cigna Medicare coverage?

Yes. Your health is extremely important to us and we want to ensure that you do not encounter any delays in care. Cigna Medicare and Main Line Health have an obligation to ensure continuity of care for a period of time for any members who become out of network due to a contract termination. We will work with Cigna Medicare to obtain an out of network authorization, but note that the request may be denied. Please call your provider or the Cigna Member Services number on the back of your ID card if you have questions or concerns.
