Hospital Medicine
About hospital medicine
At Main Line Health, hospitalists and the rest of the hospital medicine staff provide 24-hour coverage, seven days a week for Lankenau Medical Center (Wynnewood), Bryn Mawr Hospital, Paoli Hospital and Riddle Hospital — all part of Main Line Health and conveniently located in the suburbs of Philadelphia. At Lankenau Medical Center we have a growing number of academic hospitalists — hospitalists who comprise our core teaching faculty, supervising and teaching internal medicine residents and medical students and provide inpatient care 24/7.
We’re board-certified in internal medicine and family medicine. We’re dedicated to staying up to date on the most advanced medical treatments and procedures. We manage the care of hospitalized patients from date of admission to discharge and have open access to the renowned specialists at Main Line Health — that means you and your loved ones can get the right care easier than ever.
What to expect from hospitalist services
Hospital medicine providers may sound similar to primary care physicians, but they’re able to perform a number of unique services, such as:
- Admit you to the hospital if you do not have a primary care provider (PCP) or if your PCP is unavailable
- Manage all aspects of your hospital stay, including arranging consultations with specialists and ordering tests, treatments and medications
- Provide medical consultation on surgical cases and patients transferred from the Intensive Care Unit
- Manage the medical care of psychiatric and substance abuse patients prior to safe discharge
- Maintain an open line of communication with your PCP, including a thorough discharge summaries needed for your follow-up care
- Make appropriate referrals prior to discharge for those without a PCP
