Pelvic ring fractures can result in significant medical complications. Internal bleeding is the leading cause of death in patients with pelvic ring injuries, especially in those individuals involved in a motor vehicle collision.

Early pelvic fracture stabilization, through the use of a pelvic circumferential compression device, has been identified as an effective treatment option in the initial care of the injured patient. Stabilization should be provided as soon after the injury as possible, and ideally be applied before patient transport. Besides controlling potential bleeding, pelvic stabilization can provide some pain relief and improve patient comfort during transport to the appropriate healthcare facility.
