Patient Family Advisory Councils (PFAC)
What is the Patient Family Advisory Council?
Main Line Health’s Patient Family Advisory Councils (PFAC) support the mission, vision and values of the health system.
Each PFAC — based at Main Line Health hospitals and HomeCare and Hospice — allows patients and families to influence patient care policies and improvements directly. Joining the council allows you to share your unique experiences and perspectives to make healthcare more patient-centered. By embedding patients and families in support of a culture of patient safety and quality, we can ensure that their needs and concerns are at the forefront of decision-making processes.
Who can join?
Individuals may be invited or requested to become members of the Patient Family Advisory Council. Ideally, this includes patients, their relatives, caregivers or community members connected to a Main Line Health hospital or service, such as clergy or shelter staff.
We are actively seeking individuals from diverse backgrounds in age, gender, race, ethnicity and health to join our councils and contribute their perspectives. Your voice is crucial in making healthcare more patient-centered and improving the quality of care for all future patients.
Why join a PFAC?
The council is instrumental in prioritizing patient experiences in healthcare services. They offer essential perspectives from patients and families, influencing the layout and operation of care areas and programs.
As a member of Main Line Health's Patient Family Advisory Council, you will collaborate with our leadership teams to ensure that your experiences shape the care we provide. Your participation will not only benefit your own family but also contribute to the larger movement towards enhancing healthcare quality and equity in our community.
What do PFAC members do?
The council provides expertise on numerous topics, services and policies, and take part in subcommittees to ensure a well-rounded approach to patient care, support services and strategic plans at Main Line Health.
Council members will be asked to fulfill several advisory roles, including, but not limited to:
- Provide information on the patient/family point of view and healthcare experience
- Participate in the design and flow of patient care areas and patient programs
- Provide feedback on written and electronic communications as well as education material
- Provide feedback on wayfinding, food and environmental matters
- Serve as a resource on a wide variety of issues, services and policies
- Participate in subcommittees to help ensure the council and hospital’s efforts include work in patient care areas and non-clinical services
