Our Faculty & Staff

From the Director

I am honored to serve as the director of the podiatric residency at Bryn Mawr Hospital. Our three-year residency program offers doctors the opportunity to rotate through the four acute care hospitals within Main Line Health and our academic programs and research initiatives are recognized for their high standards and quality.

I am a fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and board-certified in all aspects of foot and ankle surgery. I joined the staff at both Bryn Mawr Hospital and Paoli Hospital in 1983 and a significant part of my private practice — with my brother, Philip Bernstein, DPM — focuses on the needs of pediatric patients. With offices in Bryn Mawr and Paoli, Philip and I have been serving patients for more than 30 years.

Bryn Mawr Hospital has served as my home, personally and professionally. I was born at the hospital (as were my two children) and was raised in the area. After graduating from Radnor High School, I went on to Gettysburg College for my undergraduate studies in biology.

Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine is where I earned my graduate degree and in 1980 I moved to the San Francisco Bay area to complete my surgical residency. That was where I met and married my wife Janet. In June of 1983, we returned to Philadelphia’s suburbs and I began practicing at both Bryn Mawr and Paoli hospitals.

I proudly served as chief of podiatry for 11 years before deciding to focus on educating and training the doctors who are making a difference in the communities they now serve.

If you’re interested in our residency program, schedule a visit to the Bryn Mawr podiatric medicine and surgery residency. Please note: Weekday visits are preferred because of the dynamic schedule you will experience, but we also can make arrangements for a Saturday or Sunday visit.
