Paoli Hospital and Riddle Hospital

Bryn Mawr, PAPaoli Hospital and Riddle Hospital, both part of Main Line Health, have been rated as high-performing for maternity care by U.S News & World Report in recognition of their quality care in labor and delivery. For Riddle Hospital, it was the second consecutive year being honored.

The magazine launched its Best Hospitals for Maternity Care rankings to help expectant mothers and families make informed choices about hospitals where they might have a baby following an uncomplicated pregnancy. The 2023–2024 rankings rely on data provided by hospitals.

“This is a tremendous honor for the work of our doctors, nurses and support staff at Paoli Hospital and Riddle Hospital,” said Joseph Gobern, MD, MBA, FACOG, chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Main Line Health. “The rankings are a reflection of a systematic effort and dedication toward ensuring safe, high-quality care for mothers and babies. We can also take special pride that these rankings reflect our efforts to narrow the gap in disparities that exists nationwide for birthing people from various racial and ethnic groups.”

U.S. News & World Report evaluated approximately 680 hospitals that provide labor and delivery services. Just over 300 hospitals received a high-performing designation, which is the highest award a hospital can earn in maternity care. The methodology is based entirely on objective measures of quality, such as C-section rates in lower-risk pregnancies, newborn complication rates, exclusive breast milk feeding rates and early elective delivery rates, among others.
