Neurology
The neurology team at Main Line Health treats and manages conditions such as migraines, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and more.
For patients recovering from stroke, spinal cord injury, concussion, brain injury or any other neurologic event, performing the most ordinary task can feel overwhelmingly tedious. That's why Bryn Mawr Rehab offers a progressive inpatient neuro evaluation, treatment and rehab as well as outpatient neurologic rehabilitation program for patients who may be able to function on their own, but wish to function even better.
Since neurological damage can lead to permanent impairments, which often lead to problems interacting at home or work, we treat patients in their real-life environments, such as in simulated kitchens and work stations. In fact, the Neuro Center at Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital—one of the top neurologic rehabilitation centers in the Philadelphia region—has rooms with sound-deadening and dimmable lights to limit over-stimulation and create an ideal setting for therapy.
Like the carefully designed environment, each plan of care is built around what motivates you. Through this creative approach to neurologic rehabilitation, Bryn Mawr Rehab helps patients function better in key areas:
In addition, we make neuro rehab therapy a truly collaborative effort, involving the patient, family and treatment team. This team may include a physical therapist, occupational therapist, speech therapist, physician, care manager, neuropsychologist, psychologist and vision specialist. Our clinicians have extensive experience in working with neurologically impaired patients, using evidence-based treatment approaches often with the latest technology and specialty equipment to facilitate balance rehabilitation, brain rehabilitation, neuromuscular reeducation, and physical rehabilitation.
On an outpatient basis we have patients who have been discharged from hospital care and are looking to improve their quality of life and independence. We also accept outpatient referrals for patients who are currently at home.
At your initial outpatient neuro assessment, the physician and therapy team will determine the intensity, duration and frequency of care based on your needs. We will address sensory, motor, cognitive and behavioral issues caused by complex neurological disorders, including vestibular dysfunction and balance disorders, stroke, spinal cord injury, brain injury, concussion, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease.
Depending on your goals, our clinicians may recommend any or all of the following outpatient neurologic rehabilitation therapies:
Throughout the treatment process, family members and caregivers are encouraged to participate in neuro rehab therapy sessions whenever possible, and will often be called on to help with follow-up exercises at home.
