History of medical education

Lankenau Medical Center has a long tradition of advancing the practice of medicine through medical education, and first trained house officers in 1860. Today, 138 residents and fellows participate in nine residency and fellowship programs. The hospital’s residents and fellows represent a diverse group of physicians from many different countries.

Medical students, residents and fellows come to Lankenau Medical Center for their training because of the dedication and excellence of our physicians, our reputation for high-quality patient care and the opportunity to work with scientists in the Lankenau Institute for Medical Research (LIMR).

Lankenau Medical Center’s Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs include residency programs in internal medicine, general surgery and obstetrics and gynecology, as well as fellowships in cardiology, gastroenterology, hematology/oncology and nephrology. Our GME program attracts outstanding physicians to our staff and provides a pipeline for the recruitment of bright young physicians — all of which result in better care for our patients.

The Annenberg Center for Medical Education at Lankenau Medical Center is a state-of-the-art facility that hosts educational events for physicians, physicians-in-training and other health care professionals.

Lankenau Medical Center is a dynamic regional center for medical education — promoting the core values that inspire physicians to teach and learn.
